in the phone hacking scandal that's rocking rupert murdoch's media empire. just minutes ago, the assistant police commissioner, john yates resigned. this follows the resignation of scotland yard's top official this weekend and the arrest of one of murdoch's closest associates. nbc's stephanie gosk is live in london. stephanie, when you hear about all of these resignations. some in government, some in news corp, it draws the picture of what was apparently a very tight-knit, closed circle between the government and the media in london. does it not? >> reporter: well, yeah, it does, chuck. this story started off about phone hacking and it very quickly has become a story about influence. this has really been an amazing 24 hours here. you have two high-level officials from scotland yard. the chief of police, sir paul stephenson, and his deputy, john yates, resigning. and then on top of that, his organization, his department, arrests a top executive at news corp, a trusted executive, rebekah brooks, who has been a lightning rod in this scandal. now, yates and stephenson have resigned over the co
of that phone hacking scandal in britain. the british house of commons reportedly will call on rupert murdoch's news corporation to withdraw its bid to take over broadcaster b sky b. murdoch is expected to testify to parliament tuesday. he shut down his tabloid "news of the world" last week amid allegations it hacked people's cell phones seeking information for stories that would appear in the paper. >>> florida investigators looking into a witness tampering allegation in the casey anthony trial. the orange county sheriff would not say which witness, though. meanwhile, prosecutors decided against charging casey anthony's mother are perjury. cindy anthony initially told police she did not search for chloroform on the family computer, but at the trial she said she did. the jury found casey anthony not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daughter caylee. she is to be released from jail on sunday. >>> 5:36 is your time right now. coming [ kimberly ] when i was 19, i found myself alone with two children and no way to support them. people told me i wasn't going to do anything. and i just decided i h
